What Do Volunteers Do?
Do you like to be in the center of the action? Throughout the year, we host many events across our sites; exhibit opens, lectures, living history events, and more! Special events volunteers drop in to assist during these events and help with a variety of tasks.
We desperately need teachers! If you like working with kids, please contact us about volunteering as a teacher. This volunteer position includes leading school groups through various activities.
Love to get your hands dirty? At the Mabee Farm Historic Site, we recreate three historic garden beds as well as a field garden. Our Gardeners help plan, maintain, and harvest these beds, which often result in an abundance of fresh produce distributed amongst our volunteers.
Are you a people person? Do you enjoy helping others? Docents assist the public during our day-to-day operations and during our special events. This can include greeting visitors when they walk through our doors, leading tours, answering phones, and assisting with questions.
If you enjoy making sure things have their place, keeping lists, and helping others stay organized, our volunteer Registrar position is for you! As a registrar, you will assist the staff label, describe, photograph, and preserve our artifacts. Computer skills are required.
Have you ever found the perfect document to solve your family history puzzle, only to realize it hasn’t been digitized and you have no access to it? Our library volunteers work to end that problem. By indexing, scanning, and entering information into our collections management software, you can help pave the way for future researchers!
We offer unpaid internships for course credit.
