Schenectady’s Stockade is a national jewel, boasting the highest concentration of historic period homes in the nation. Join us on a walking tour of the Stockade and beyond to discover the beauty and history of America’s oldest residential neighborhood!

Private Guided Walking Tours

Join one of our friendly guides for a private one-hour walking tour of the Stockade. Minimum of eight people required for private tours; advance registration required. $8.00 (includes visit to Museum). Please contact Michael Diana at educator@schenectadyhistorical.org to arrange yours!

Candlelight Walking Tours

Join us as we explore the Stockade after dark and discover the neighborhood’s haunting Colonial or Victorian past! Both tours are full of frights and fun, and focus on different periods of Stockade spooks. Tickets are $12, advanced purchase required, and include entry to museum and refreshments and live music after the tour.


SECRET STOCKADE: A Historic Tour and Lunch

Discover the Stockade and its secrets with a walking tour, lunch at historic Arthur’s Market, a peek inside a private 1820s Stockade home, and a visit to the Schenectady History Museum. SECRET STOCKADE is about three hours long, including a lunch stop. Tickets are $20, and include guided tours of both the Schenectady History Museum and the Stockade, as well as lunch at Arthur’s Market.



Schenectady Suds: Historic Beer Tour of the Stockade District

Take a walk along what was once known as “Brewer’s Street,” looking at local history through the lens of a beer glass. This walking tour of the Historic Stockade District will examine the history of brewing and its impact on our history, from the Colonial era to today’s craft brew revival.

The walking tour is approximately one hour long, begins at the SCHS, and concludes with a pint and tour with the brewers at Mad Jack Brewery / The Van Dyck Restaurant (pint included in the price!) Join us before the tour for a look at current exhibitions in the Schenectady History Museum. Tickets are $15 and include a pint at the Van Dyck. Advance registration is required. 21+ please!
