SECRET STOCKADE: All New for 2018!

The Stockade and its secrets come to life on this behind-the-scenes journey through the neighborhood. Join us for a morning of mysteries as our guide leads us from the museum, through the Stockade, and inside two Stockade homes, each with their own legends and lore. Refreshments will be served inside the Stockade’s oldest home, the historic Brouwer House. This tour lasts approximately three hours, and meets at 32 Washington Ave, Schenectady NY 12305 at 10AM the morning of your tour.

2018 Tours

Schenectady Suds Beer Tour
Thursday, June 21 – 6:30pm @ 32 W

Take a walk along what was once known as “Brewer’s Street,” looking at local history through the lens of a beer glass. This walking tour of the Historic Stockade District will examine the history of brewing and its impact on our history, from the Colonial era to today’s craft brew revival.

The walking tour is approximately one hour long, begins at the SCHS, and concludes with a pint and tour with the brewers at Mad Jack Brewery / The Van Dyck Restaurant (pint included in the price!) Join us before the tour for a look at current exhibitions in the Schenectady History Museum. Tickets are $15 and include a pint at the Van Dyck. Advance registration is required. 21+ please!

Scandalous Schenectady

Every city has its fair share of scandal! This tour through the historic Stockade recalls some of Schenectady’s more nefarious characters. Bold bootlegging, cruel kidnappings and maybe even a few mysterious murders…this tour has it all! $10; pre-registration required.



Tales & Treasures at the home of Marilyn Sassi, Antique Expert

An intimate and rare opportunity to visit one of the finest houses in the Mohawk Valley. Marilyn Sassi is an expert in regional antiques, and her Stockade home is magnificently appointed. We’ll spend about 90 minutes with Marilyn as she guides us through centuries of Mohawk Valley antiques, each imbued with its own mysterious tales. Drinks and light fare will follow at the Brouwer House. $35 and space is highly limited.

GE Realty Plot Walking Tour
Saturday, May 19 – 9am

It’s elegant, it’s shady, and it’s filled with firsts! Schenectady City Historian, Chris Leonard, leads us on a walking tour of the historic GE Realty Plot neighborhood. Discover dynamic events and the unique cast of characters who have called “The Plot” their home. The tour includes stories and anecdotes about GE notables, as well as the formation of The Plot and ongoing efforts to protect these stately homes.

Tickets are $20/person, and include entry into one of the homes, with a break for refreshments on its large front porch. The tour meets at Steinmetz Memorial Park on Wendell Avenue, next to the Unitarian Church (1221 Wendell Ave). (Not Steinmetz Park on Rosa Road). Candlelight Walking Tours

Join us as we explore the Stockade after dark and discover the neighborhood’s haunting Colonial or Victorian past! Both tours are full of frights and fun, and focus on different periods of Stockade spooks. Tickets are $12, advanced purchase required, and include entry to museum and refreshments and live music after the tour.
