Secret Stockade: All New for 2018
Second Wednesdays of the month through October; tour starts at 10AM

The Stockade and its secrets come to life on this behind-the-scenes journey through the neighborhood. Join us for a morning of mysteries as our guide leads us from the museum, through the Stockade, and inside two Stockade homes, each with their own legends and lore. Refreshments will be served inside the Stockade’s oldest home, the historic Brouwer House. This tour lasts approximately three hours, and meets at 32 Washington Ave, Schenectady NY 12305 at 10AM the morning of your tour.

Friday, August 17 – 6pm @ Proctors
Explore the history and heritage of Schenectady’s vibrant downtown streets. We’ll navigate down State and Jay Streets, focusing on downtown’s salacious stories and impressive architecture. $10, free for members.

Schenectady Suds
Wednesday, September 26 – 6pm @ 32 W
Join us for a night of fun history, good company and great beer! We’ll stroll through the Historic Stockade District, traveling from the colonial past to the craft-brew present. Includes a a complimentary pint and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the Mad Jack Brewery led by the brewers themselves. These tours are always popular so reserve your spot now! Tickets $15

GE Realty Plot Tour
Saturday, August 25 – 9am @ Steinmetz Memorial Park
It’s elegant, it’s shady, and it’s filled with firsts! Schenectady City Historian, Chris Leonard leads us on a walking tour of the historic GE Realty Plot neighborhood. Discover the dynamic events and the unique cast of characters who have shaped “The Plot”. The tour includes stories and anecdotes about GE inventors and executives, Schenectady leaders, entertainers, and incomparable individuals, as well as the formation of The Plot and ongoing efforts to protect these stately homes.

Tickets are $20/person, and include entry into one of the homes, plus a leisurely stop with treats on its large front porch. The tour meets at Steinmetz Memorial Park on Wendell Avenue, next to the Unitarian Church (1221 Wendell Ave.)

Scandalous Schenectady

Every city has its fair share of scandal! This tour through the historic Stockade recalls some of Schenectady’s more nefarious characters. Bold bootlegging, cruel kidnappings and maybe even a few mysterious murders…this tour has it all! $10, free for members; pre-registration required.

Scotia Secrets Walking Tour
Saturday, Sept. 29 – 10am @ Scotia Library
A brand new tour for 2018, this tour takes you for a historic stroll through Scotia. This idyllic town traces its roots back to 1655, even before Schenectady itself. Join us as we explore the village and go behind-the-scenes at the Abraham Glen House as well as the village Fire Department! $10, free for members; pre-registration required.

Tales & Treasures at the home of Marilyn Sassi, Antique Expert
Saturday, Sept 15 – 2pm
An intimate and rare opportunity to visit one of the finest houses in the Mohawk Valley. Marilyn Sassi is an expert in regional antiques, and her Stockade home is magnificently appointed. We’ll spend about 90 minutes with Marilyn as she guides us through centuries of Mohawk Valley antiques, each imbued with its own mysterious tales. Drinks and light fare will follow at the Brouwer House. $35 and space is highly limited.

River Tours

Rowing the River
Saturday, Sept. 22 – 10am @ Mabee Farm
Saturday, Oct. 6 – 10am @ Mabee Farm

Travel back to the 1700s when the mighty Mohawk was the gateway to the West. We’ll take our reproduction boats out for a 2 hour rowing session on the Mohawk. Be prepared to do some rowing! Expert guides in period clothing will to show us the way. $15 kids, $20 adults. 

Kayak Through History
Wednesday, August 22 – 6pm
Launches from Water’s Edge Lighthouse
See Schenectady from a different vantage point: the Mohawk River! Audrey Egleston of Amsterdam’s Down by the River Tours will be our expert guide as we kayak through Schenectady’s history. $20 for rentals, or $10 to BYOB (bring your own boat!).

Candlelight Walking Tours

Candlelight Walking Tours will be back with new tales for 2018! Join us as we explore the historic Stockade after dark and discover the neighborhood’s haunting past! Tickets are $12, advanced purchase required, and include entry to museum and refreshments and live music from 8-9pm after the tour. Please remember to bring a flashlight with you!

Fridays October 12, 19, & 26 @ 7:00 & 7:30pm. Candlelight Walking Tours are co-sponsored by the Schenectady Heritage Foundation. Tickets will be available in September.
