September 9, 2017 –
September 9th @ 2 pm
32 Washington Ave, Schenectady, NY 12305

Our speaker, Susan Luccini, will describe the similarities and differences between public history and personal history, with examples of each. She will explore why personal histories are important both to families and individuals and how and why local history enhances a narrative. She will speak about the pros and cons of different ways of preserving stories: books, audiotapes, videotapes, and online or cloud storage. Samples of the books she has created will be available and questions will be welcome and appreciated.
Susan Luccini (née Glowacki) was born and raised in Schenectady. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and attended Cornell University where she received a BA in English Literature. Susan taught English for nearly thirty years in the United States (including five years at Mont Pleasant High School), Ghana, Malaysia, and Italy. However, during this time she was also developing a parallel career as a writer, editor, and translator for numerous educational publishers and corporations. In 2005, she launched her own business, SML Publishing (www.smlpublishing.com), the purpose of which is to capture life stories in print. Since she has had a lifelong interest in people, in their stories and in the process by which memories are retained, being a personal historian has been the ideal job for her.
