Preservation in the Netherlands with Andre Hoek
October 27, 2018 –
Dutch restoration architect, André Hoek will deliver an illustrated lecture on the preservation of Dutch Architecture - "A Dutch Approach to Historic Preservation" ~ Preserving 'Spirit of Place'.
André Hoek, a Dutch architect specializing in historic preservation, will speak about the techniques and tools developed in the Netherlands to survey, study, restore, protect and maintain historic buildings and gardens. He will discuss whether these methods can apply to historic buildings, especially those of Dutch origin, in New York. Mr. Hoek will examine projects large and small, building archeological methods, sustainability, and non-invasive energy saving solutions.
He will also present the complications of restoring a structure that has been changed and adapted for new uses over time, and the difficulty in retaining the 'Spirit of Place' in historic buildings and landscapes.
