Introduction to Memoir Writing

Have you always wanted to write your own memoir but don't know where to begin? Join us for a fun, interactive event which will give you the tools to write your own stories immediately! In this introductory workshop we will learn the basics of memoir writing, ask some questions, and get right to work! Offered in conjunction with our ongoing exhibition, "Back In My Day: Childhood, Play and Schenectady," which highlights stories about growing up in Schenectady, participants will draw on their own favorite memories from childhood.

About the instructor:
Mary Sanders Shartle is a poet, fiction, and essay writer. Her novel about a woman living alone in the Adirondacks, "The Truth and Legend of Lily Martindale," has won a number of prizes including the ALA Indie Fab award for best fiction, IPPY gold medal for best novel in the Northeast, SUNY’s Editors Choice award, and two awards from the Adirondack Center for Writing (best fiction and people’s choice.) Mary is also an award-winning poet and accomplished editor. She teaches numerous writing workshops for adults, children and teens throughout the Capital Region and regularly hosts book discussion groups for Road Scholars (Elder Hostel) at Great Camp Sagamore.
