SUMMARY:Howlin' at the Moon with The Clements Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The Clements Brothers are George and Charles Clements\, identical twins from New England. They’ve been playing and writing music together for as long as they can remember. With roots\, rock\, bluegrass\, jazz\, and classical influences\, George (on guitar) and Charles (on bass) aim to capture their singer-songwriter sensibilities in a unique blended voice\, at once enthralling and intimate\, groovy and serene. The duo is a fusion of each brother’s unique musical journey\, and the result is a music all its own\, filled with vocal harmonies\, instrumental virtuosity\, and a genuine love of song. \nOpening the night is our host Everest Rising\, who curates the featured artist invites and serves the warm-up act for each concert in the series. Together they create progressive acoustic music that is unique\, powerful\, and comfortably familiar. With a wide dynamic range\, Everest Rising’s material spans from heartfelt laments to all out jams\, all executed with instrumental finesse and thoughtful story-telling. \nAbout Howlin’ at the Moon \nHowlin’ at the Moon showcases regional music from a variety of genres\, providing an authentic musical experience for both audience and musicians. Music traditions are meant to be fluid and evolving\, and Howlin’ nurtures regional musical talent while providing opportunities for cross-pollination. All in a 1760 Dutch Barn that inspires and reminds us of our place within history! Admission is $7\, free SCHS members with valid membership card. Cash only. Beer and wine available for purchase. \nHowlin’ at the Moon is generously sponsored by Aspire Sustainability.

SUMMARY:Schenectady: Crossroads of the Revolution Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Crossroads is a one-day symposium that will bring together leading historians\, scholars\, and public history professionals to explore different aspects of the American Revolution in upstate New York\, with a particular focus on Schenectady as a crossroads of conflict\, culture\, and change. \nWhile the stories of generals and founding fathers are well known\, this symposium will examine the lives and experiences of everyday folks who made their home in and around Schenectady County. How did patriots\, loyalists\, farmers\, merchants\, men\, women\, and children see their lives changed by the fight for independence? How did geography\, community\, and environment influence the Revolution in this region\, including the Mohawk River? Through a series of presentations and discussions\, the symposium will raise critical questions: \n-What roles did individuals and communities play in shaping the Revolution’s outcomes in upstate New York?\n-How did Schenectady’s position as a transportation and military hub influence political\, social\, and cultural developments?\n-How do different perspectives and historical evidence reshape our understanding of liberty\, land\, and legacy?\n-In what ways did the ideals of the Declaration of Independence resonate locally? \nSpeakers: \nClaire Bellerjeu\nJohn Gearing\nDonald Johnson\nSean Kelleher\nTBD \nTickets will be available soon!
