DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Walkabout is a house tour\, a celebration of our great neighborhood and a major fundraiser for the Stockade Association and Schenectady County Historical Society. \nSave this special Saturday in September in the Stockade as a day to relax\, listen to some great music\, chat with friends and costumed characters all while strolling through three centuries of our fabulous history in New York’s oldest registered historic district! This will be our 58th year of these Walkabouts\, starting way back in the 1950s. Several neighbors have graciously agreed to open the interior of their homes to neighbors and visitors and tell secrets of the architecture and stories of the families that lived in them. \nThis year’s Walkabout will be held on Saturday\, September 24\, 2022 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nTickets are $20 in advance of the day\, $25 on the day of the event\, and $10 for students on the day of the event. \nThe Stockade Walkabout is presented by the Stockade Association and the Schenectady County Historical Society with proceeds benefiting Stockade preservation and beautification and SCHS programs\, buildings and its mission. \nWe already have seven wonderful homes on the tour: \n25 Washington Avenue\, a grand 1820’s vintage house\n205 Union Street\, many interesting artifacts uncovered in the renovation of this 1700’s house\n32 Front Street\, after many years of very hard work\, a very early brimming with history house\n125 North College\, a quaint Greek Revival worker’s cottage\n17 Front Street (built 1760; former home of Joseph C. Yates\, 1st mayor of Schenectady\, NYS senator\, State supreme court justice and 7th governor of NY)\n17 Front St Apt 1\n17 North Ferry Street\, the rear was built c. 1719 as a smithy by Jan Mabie family. The front was built c. 1768 by Myndert Wemple. SUMMARY:Walking Tour: Mid-century Modern Feibes & Schmitt Architecture
DESCRIPTION:Mid-century Modern is an American design movement influential in interior\, graphic\, and product design\, and especially\, in architecture. With origins in the International and Bauhaus movements\, Mid-century Modernism was manifested locally by the architectural firm of Feibes & Schmitt. On this tour of downtown Schenectady\, we will visit five government buildings that Feibes & Schmitt designed\, including the award-winning Karen B. Johnson Public Library. We’ll also discuss this significant design movement with a historic preservationist. Much of the information on this tour comes from Paul Turner\, an architectural historian scholar\, and lifelong friend and mentee of Jim Schmitt and Werner Feibes.  This event is co-sponsored by the Schenectady Heritage Foundation. \n  \nThis is a 2.3 mile walking tour lasting approximately one hour. The tour meets at MiSci\, 15 Museum Dr\, Schenectady\, NY 12308. There is public parking available throughout downtown.

DESCRIPTION:The Gong is one of man’s most powerful and oldest transformational and therapeutic instruments. Renowned gong artists Charles Adinolfi and Tim Bell will share with you an experience of wonder and relaxation. Gongs\, tubular bells\, and crystal and Tibetan bowls will resonate to create a calming\, centering\, energizing place of  transformation and healing inside the Dutch Barn.\n\nJoining them in this immersive  journey is guitarist Scott Collins\, whose exotic sounds are with tremendous passion and pyrotechnical velocity. Diana Domingo will bring her gifts as an artist and sound voice healer. Zelda Hotaling\, a member of the Haudenosaunee will promote healing through her use of crystal bowls\, drums\, and rattles. And percussionist Blair Davis will join in. The day will begin and end with a dance piece choreographed to the electronic music of Carl Landa\, Skidmore’s Dance Department’s Director.
