SUMMARY:Wine and Walk: Beyond the Pines
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a colonial-era walking tour that takes us back to a land you may know but a world that’s unrecognizable. In 1661\, Schenectady was founded at the frontier of the colonial world and sat at the crossroads of many competing empires. This tiny town was caught in a delicate balance as various European and Native American powers jostled for control of this area. In this tour we’ll explore the earliest years of our city’s history leading up to the disastrous night in 1690 when it was utterly destroyed. Come see how our city’s story began! \nAfter the tour\, stick around for a complimentary glass of wine at the SCHS Museum. \nThis tour meets and concludes at SCHS\, 32 Washington Ave\, Schenectady. All ticket sales are final. \n2025 Wine and Walk Schedule: \nMay 30 – Saving the Stockade\nJune 6 – Beyond the Pines\nJune 13 – Revolutionary Schenectady\nJune 27 – Canal Days 200th Birthday\nJuly 18 – Scandalous Schenectady\nJuly 25- The Gilded Age\nAugust 1- Lighting the World\nAugust 8- Beyond the Pines\nAugust 15: The Gilded Age\nAugust 22- Sacred Spaces

SUMMARY:Howlin' at the Moon featuring Belle-Skinner
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the final Howlin’ at the Moon concert of the season\, featuring Belle-Skinner! \nWe were so enthralled with Belle-Skinner’s performance last year that we simply HAD to ask her to come back this year. This concert is not to be missed! Belle-Skinner is a dark nostalgic singer-songwriter based in New York. With a hauntingly beautiful\, lilting soprano and innate sense of melody she crafts tales of songbirds\, sirens and desert nomads – nuanced and layered stories which bridge the gap between past and present. Though her influences cover a broad range of genres – from French chansons and Russian folk to contemporary alt-pop and rock – her voice often draws comparisons to the likes of Joni Mitchell\, Kate Bush\, Jeff Buckley\, Mary Hopkin\, and early St. Vincent. \nOpening the night is our host Everest Rising\, who curates the featured artist invites and serves the warm-up act for each concert in the series. Located in New York’s Capital Region\, Everest Rising is a tightly-knit quintet influenced by bluegrass\, Americana\, rock\, jazz and more. Together they create progressive acoustic music that is unique\, powerful\, and comfortably familiar. With a wide dynamic range\, Everest Rising’s material spans from heartfelt laments to all out jams\, all executed with instrumental finesse and thoughtful story-telling. \nHowlin’ at the Moon showcases regional music from a variety of genres\, providing an authentic musical experience for both audience and musicians. Music traditions are meant to be fluid and evolving\, and Howlin’ nurtures regional musical talent while providing opportunities for cross-pollination. All in a 1760 Dutch Barn that inspires and reminds us of our place within history! \nAdmission is $10 or $5 for SCHS members with valid membership card. Cash only. Beer and wine available for purchase. \nHowlin’ at the Moon is generously sponsored by Aspire Sustainability\, Cohoes Savings Foundation\, and Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation

SUMMARY:"The Cherry Orchard": Presented by NorthEast Theatre Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Coming this September: NorthEast Theatre Ensemble presents Anton Chekhov’s “The Cherry Orchard\,” Newly translated by Dr. Krysta Dennis. \n\nThe Cherry Orchard \nBy Anton Chekov\, translated by Dr. Krysta Dennis\, directed by Suzanna Bornn \nPerformances at 7:00 PM on September 5\, 6\, 12\, & 13 and at 2:00 PM on September 6\, 7\, 13\, & 14 \n\nIn Chekhov’s final play\, a once-wealthy family on the brink of total loss serves as a metaphor for the death of the aristocracy and the coming of a revolution. \nRanevskaya Lyubov Andreevna returns to the ancestral country estate she is about to lose\, deeply in debt. Refusing to confront the present head-on\, Lyubov brushes off practical advice from friends and neighbors\, spending the final days at her childhood home in willful reminiscence. \nMeanwhile\, an auction looms over the estate\, threatening the futures of the entire household and the once beautiful Cherry Orchard. \nDirector Suzanna Bornn stages the “comedy” inside the historic barn at Mabee Farm\, a reminder of the pastoral life Europe’s elite romanticized in the 1700s 1800s and eventually lost as industry and revolution took the world by force. \n\nTickets may be purchased at https://www.simpletix.com/e/the-cherry-orchard-by-anton-chekhov-tickets-232367.

SUMMARY:"Expressive Interpretations" Exhibition Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition showcases new\, original works by four artists: Deborah Angilletta\, John Morrette\, Tim Prendergast\, and Maureen Sausa. Together\, they developed Expressive Interpretations\, a collaborative exploration of individuality in landscape art. \nEach artist contributed a black-and-white landscape photograph as a shared reference. From these four images\, every artist created a set of four paintings\, interpreting each scene through their own perspective. The result is a collection of sixteen watercolor\, oil\, and acrylic paintings that highlight the unique vision\, color choices\, and techniques of each artist. Imagine the possibilities! \nPlease join us for a wine and cheese reception celebrating the opening of this exhibition. Admission is free and open to all.
