Exhibition Opening Reception: “Threads of Liberty: Schenectady and the American Revolution”

February 6, 2026 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Part of SCHS’ America at 250 project, this exhibition explores the story of Schenectady and Schenectadians during the American Revolution, weaving together different “threads” of the Revolutionary War-era. See the rare and significant 1771 Liberty Flag, carried by the Schenectady Minute Men during the Revolutionary War, alongside artifacts and documents that explore how Schenectadians contributed to and were shaped by the birth of our nation. Visitors will discover how the principles of the Declaration of Independence — including freedom, self-governance, and civic duty — echoed through our streets and homes, connecting local struggle to national triumph. Above all, “Threads of Liberty” will inspire visitors all to reflect on the vision of the United States in 1776, and our enduring fight to live up to its founding promise.
