Walking Tour: Mid-century Modern Feibes & Schmitt Architecture
October 8 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am$13.00
Mid-century Modern is an American design movement influential in interior, graphic, and product design, and especially, in architecture. With origins in the International and Bauhaus movements, Mid-century Modernism was manifested locally by the architectural firm of Feibes & Schmitt. On this tour of downtown Schenectady, we will visit five government buildings that Feibes & Schmitt designed, including the award-winning Karen B. Johnson Public Library. We’ll also discuss this significant design movement with a historic preservationist. Much of the information on this tour comes from Paul Turner, an architectural historian scholar, and lifelong friend and mentee of Jim Schmitt and Werner Feibes.
This is a 2.3 mile walking tour lasting approximately one hour. The tour meets at MiSci, 15 Museum Dr, Schenectady, NY 12308. There is public parking available throughout downtown.
