“Redesigning Fashion” Book Club

Looking to expand your literary horizons this summer? Join SCHS for a moderated book club series focused on our current exhibit, "Redesigning Fashion: Transgression and Identity in Women’s Historic Dress." The exhibit explores the historical importance of women’s clothing and fashion in the expression of cultural values and the creation of identity, and examines how those ideals change over time. Through novels and memoirs, we’ll examine some of the themes present in the exhibit such as gender, sexuality, women’s work, and women’s roles in society. Co-moderated by Curator Suzy Fout and Librarian Marietta Carr. The book club will meet biweekly at SCHS on Tuesdays at 6pm, running September 22 through November 17. Books and other materials will be provided. The program is free to all, thanks to a generous grant from Humanities New York. For more information or to sign up for the book club, contact Marietta Carr at librarian@schenectadyhistorical.org or 518-374-0263 x3.
