Looking for a personalized holiday gift? In this 5 hour workshop you will felt your own beautiful, wearable piece of art! You will learn how to apply merino wool roving, silks, yarns, and other materials to a piece of silk chiffon. Through the ancient art of wet felting, we'll fuse all the elements into a cohesive textile. These shawls can be worn, stitched into decorative pillows or bags, used as wall hangings, the only limit is your imagination. This workshop begins at 10am sharp at the Mabee Farm Education Center. Expert felting artist Mallory Zondag will guide participants through the entire process. The registration fee covers all materials costs. On Sunday, December 7 from 12–5 PM, the city’s oldest neighborhood will come alive with twinkling lights, holiday spirit, and local charm. Stroll through the Stockade’s historic streets as neighborhood businesses open their doors for festive fun, holiday shopping, and cozy community cheer. As the day winds down, gather at Lawrence Circle at 5:30 PM for the beloved Stockade Tree Lighting Ceremony. Enjoy carol singing, holiday blessings, warm welcomes, and a few magical surprises to usher in the season together. We'll meet virtually each month to discuss a few chapters of the book at hand. Join for an evening of seasonal cocktails and more at Schenectady Historical. Led by historian John Gearing, we’ll make and sample a variety of historic libations, made with holiday flare, amidst the glittering Festival of Trees. All ticket sales are final.
Families are welcome to join us throughout the day to share in colonial holiday traditions, including those celebrated by the Dutch-American Mabee family. We'll learn how revelers of yore celebrated the season, enjoy colonial-era treats and stories by the Inn's fire, and make a craft to take home. Plus, we'll have a very special scavenger hunt -- kids can use riddles and clues to find holiday friends nestled around the historic site. Feel free to stop by anytime between 11am and 2pm. The hearth will be going all day, and we'll have plenty of treats and holiday cheer! This program is free, suggested donation $5-$10.
Schenectady’s Stockade is beautiful any time of year but the holidays always bring out a certain magic! In this walking tour we’ll explore the lights and sights of this historic district while learning the ways in which generations past celebrated the season. Warm drinks will be served, and guests are invited to explore the sparkling Festival of Trees before and after the tour! All tours meet at SCHS at 5:30pm. All ticket sales are final.
Experience a recreated 18th century chocolate house at the Festival of Trees. Living historians will tempt your pallet and tickle your tastebuds with a trio of historic hot chocolates, including delicacies enjoyed by English kings and the middle-class settlers of the Mohawk and Hudson Valleys. You'll learn how easy it is to create and enjoy this wonderful treat favored by the ancestors. As a special finale to the evening, we'll taste a libation infused with port or madeira.
