VIRTUAL: Redesigning Fashion Transgression and Identity in Women’s Historic Dress
The Schenectady County Historical Society has teamed up with students in the Fashion and Textiles program at SUNY Oneonta for this exciting exhibition. Students were given the opportunity to work hands-on with the SCHS’ extensive collection of historic clothing in order to study the role dress and fashion have in society, while critically examining how those ideas shifted over time. Based on their research, students have redesigned a historic garment of their choosing, creating a new garment for the modern wearer. This resulting exhibition explores how identity plays a role in the development of fashion, displaying the students’ completed garments alongside their historic inspirations, interpreting our history in a unique and modern way.
