We are not currently hiring.

Volunteer

Volunteers inspire our visitors, preserve history, and keep our organization running smoothly. Whether you are looking for something behind-the-scenes or out on the front line, we have the perfect volunteer opportunity for you. To become a volunteer at the Schenectady County Historical Society, please fill out our Volunteer Application form.

What Do Volunteers Do?

Special Events
Do you like to be in the center of the action? Throughout the year, we host many events across our sites; exhibit opens, lectures, living history events, and more! Special events volunteers drop in to assist during these events and help with a variety of tasks, including parking, concessions, and way-finding. Mostly at Mabee Farm Historic Site.

Educator and/or Docent
Are you a people person? Do you enjoy helping others? Docents assist the public during our day-to-day operations and during our special events. This can include greeting visitors when they walk through our doors, leading tours, answering phones, and assisting with questions. And, if you like working with kids, contact us about volunteering as a teacher, which includes leading school groups through various activities. Mostly at Mabee Farm Historic Site.

Gardener and/or Handyman
Love to get your hands dirty? Fix things? Make things? At the Mabee Farm Historic Site, we recreate three historic garden beds as well as a field garden, and always need help with building maintenance Our Gardeners and Handymen help plan and maintain the gardens, grounds, and buildings, which often results in an abundance of fresh produce distributed amongst our volunteers. Mostly at Mabee Farm Historic Site.

Internships

We offer internships for course credit that focus on historical research, museum education, museum operations, and managing artifacts and historic collections. For information, please contact Mary Zawacki at director@schenectadyhistorical.org
